1911 45acp Frame Paper Weight
wendellgj:
Is there a market for 1911 frame paper weights? Is there someone in this forum that has the skill and machines to make 1911 paper weights? If so I would send a deposit today for at least one and another deposit for a second paper weight to pay for your metal. It seems like folks are always struggling to find 1911 frame paper weights as I. My priorities are affordability and would also like to receive a 1911 frame paper weight before I die. Just wondering and wandering? Thank you.

Steel paper weights are available. A little pricey at $95, but available.

These were just added to their catalog according to their literature. I don't know much about these and decided to ask you 1st about completing one of these. Is there some std. ATF guideline of what makes there a non-firearm? To finish one do I need a jig, or follow the blueprint? Thank you and I have been learning alot. I have trigger, hammer, and grip safety coming. It is amazing how many folks in my little community that are builders of these as well as many other makes and styles. I like to trade and found others far, wide, and close by, doing the same.

The ATF requirements are quite arbitrary. They decide what holes make the difference between a non-gun and a firearm. There is no rational basis. I believe they just recently changed what holes could not be present on a 1911 frame to be considered a non- firearm. It is probably on their website. The best way to machine a frame in my opinion is to work from the drawings which are readily available on the Internet. Jigs are expensive and of little value. If your only tools are a Dremel tool and a drill press, you probably don't want to start a 1911. If you have a mill, preferably with a DRO, and are willing to spend the time to understand the 1911 it is not impossible to machine a finished frame.

I looked at the ATF site and found a large list of regulations/law on various firearms but nothing on 80% non-firearms. I would believe there is a site with individual 80% acceptance letters with specific drawings, however, I got impatient and left since I was not having any luck. It would be nice if it was not so "arbitrary" if that's the case. I will keep looking unless someone else has the address.
