Q.  Is it legal to build your own firearm?

A.  Here are some basic links for right now... I'll be updating this thread when I get time.

Q.  What type of CNC machines do you use for your gun projects?
A.  99% of the time I use one of our Fanuc Robodrills.  I've also used our Fadals and Haas as well.  The Fanuc Robodrill is a very quick machine.  It's a smaller machine compared to the Fadals or Haas, but I've only ran across a handful of jobs that couldn't be ran on the Robodrills (these are mostly jobs that require heavy cutting of steels).

Q.  What type of equipment do you have access to at your shop?
A.  I am very fortunate, because I have access to all kinds of cool machines.  We have 14 CNC machining centers, 2 CNC turning centers, 2 swiss type screw machines, CMM machine, CNC sheetmetal punch, CNC sheetmetal press brake, sinker type EDM, welders (including tig and mig), 6 plastic injection molding machines (ranging from 7 ton up to 150 ton capacity) and a full anodizing facility.  So for the most part if there is something that needs to be made, we can make it in our shop.

Q.  I have a part I need machined.  Do you machine custom parts for people?
A.  I usually don't take on custom machining jobs, mostly because I do this gun stuff as a hobby.  I'm usually more expensive than other machine shops around, because I already have a full time job and for me to machine somebodies parts in my free time, well... it has to be worth it, I mean would you spend time away from your family and friends and only work for peanuts?  It is best to check around to see if you can have the part made some other place first.  If no other machine shop will make your part  then you might consider having me look at it.  But keep in mind, I CAN NOT machine any firearms for you.  If you want me to look at making a part for you, I really need a blueprint or a solidmodel... otherwise you'll be adding more cost for the CAD time.

Q.  Can you finish machining a frame or receiver for me?
A.  Sorry, I can't.  I'm not a licensed firearm manufacture, so all firearms that I make are for my personal use.

Q.  What CAD/CAM software do you use?
A.  To clarify for other users, CAD is "computer aided design" and CAM is "computer aided manufacturing".  For CAD I use Solidworks and for CAM I use Surfcam.

Q.  What kind of aluminum do you use for your projects?
A.  I've always used 6061-T6 aluminum for my projects.  A lot of guys ask about 7075, but that material is usually about 4 or 5 times more expensive than 6061.  Plus I've never been able to find a chunk of aluminum big enough for an AR lower.

Q.  If I buy a mini-mill, can I do all the projects you have done?
A.  If you have enough desire, then yes.  But keep in mind using a mini-mill and a full size CNC machining center are two completely different animals.  I've had very little experience using a mini-mill, so I can't really say what you can and can't do.  But I can tell you this, I've seen projects other people have done using those little mills and it is absolutely amazing.

Q.  What mini-mill do you recommend?
A.  Since I don't have much experience with mini-mills, I can't really make a recommendation.  However if you check out the following websites you should find all the help you need.  www.practicalmachinist.com  and www.cnczone.com

Q.  Where can I find the CNC G-code and setup sheets for your AR15?
A.  Programs, setup sheets and sketches can be found in this link.  HERE

Q.  What paperwork is needed to complete a 80% receiver and do I need a license to complete one?
A.  If you can legally own a firearm, then you can legally build your own firearm as long as it doesn't fall under a NFA firearm and your state doesn't restrict that firearm.  NFA firearms are items such as machine guns, short barrel rifles (SBR), silencers and destructive devices.  You can build your own SBR's and silencers, as long as you do the proper paperwork and pay the $200 tax stamp.

Q.  I want to build my own SBR and/or silencer.  What paperwork do I need?
A.  You first need to make sure the NFA item you're wanting to build is legal in your state.  Then you need to fill out a Form 1, which is a 1 page (front and back) firearm registration application.  You also need to get finger printed, fill out a citizenship certification form.  Once you get all of that together you need to get it signed by your local chief law enforcement officer (CLEO).  Most CLEO's don't have a problem signing off on the forms, since it's really your 2nd Amendment Right to own the firearms.  Then after you get the forms signed, you mail them along with a $200 check for the tax stamp to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATF).  If you have done everything correctly, you will get the returned form 1 (with a $200 tax stamp affixed to it) within about 120 days, usually it's around 60 days.  You have to wait until you get your paperwork back before you start building your NFA item.  For more details and where to get all the forms, visit my website at this link... http://www.cncgunsmithing.com/projects/22silencer.html

Q.  Do you sell any 80% receivers?  If not, who's receiver do you suggest buying?
A.  No, I don't sell 80% receivers at this time.  If you are looking for a good quality 80% forged lower receiver, I would highly suggest buying one from Kevin at audibk@yahoo.com  If you are looking for a good quality 80% billet lower receiver then I would highly suggest KT Ordnance.  I would stay away from any lowers that are castings.  Castings tend to be very poor quality.

Q.  What's the difference between 0% 10% 80% and 100% lower receivers?
A.  Visit this link... CLICK HERE

Q.  I have some AR15 lowers that are raw forgings, can you bring them to 80% for me?
A.  Sorry I can't.  It would be much cheaper to just buy 80% lowers.

Q.  Do you have a complete AR15 solidmodel for sale?
A.  The complete AR15 solidmodel is a work in progress.  It's not 100% accurate yet.  I don't want to release the files until I know everything is 100%.  But when the files are ready, they will be available to download for free off my website.   I work on the files in my spare time, so I don't have a date as to when I'll have them complete.

Q.  What is your mailing address?
