why 10% instead of o say 50% or 75% i understand that there are some technicalities of anything over 80% but why not more than ten percent.

read the other posts on the forum regarding supposed percentages of unfinished lowers. these numbers are just subjective, there are no standards. it's either a firearm, or not, and that status changes @ APPROXIMATELY 80% completion, as per the whims of BATFE at the moment. BATFE can change their mind anytime regarding what might be borderline cases. justin and others are just staying well short of that to be safe, and calling it "10%", regardless of whether its really 50 or 60% or whatever.

it looks to be a legit ten percent. and i would stand by justin if the batfe wanted to try and pull a kt ordinance on him, because they were liscenced and the batfe still raided and seized all of their equipment

Mitchell, I have a request that others may also find helpful:
My FFL requested the sender (you) put my name on the outside of any packages (transfers) so they know who the item is for without opening it. Since they are a 3'rd party only performing the transfer and not inventorying the item, they don't like opening customer packages which they are not warrantying etc without the receiving owner present.
And a tracking number would help too.
Thank you!

in terms of what? volume of material to be removed? number of operations? time required? who decides that? can you reference some standards to support your assessment? and i would stand by justin if the batfe wanted to try and pull a kt ordinance on him,
i'm sure he's very relieved that you'll back him up. are you volunteering to go to ClubFed in his place should BATFE decide to set their sights on him and do what they've already shown they will do (ie use their overly large authority to screw the little guy if thats what they feel like)? because they were liscenced and the batfe still raided and seized all of their equipment
you may want to get a bit more familiar with the Celata case. he was not, in fact "liscenced" (sic). as it will in no way help Richard to get into the details here in the public forum (and i hope he wins against whatever case they finally bring against him), i'd rather not do so. but i'd be happy to discuss this further by PM if you wish.

I have been trying to contact Mitchell for several days. I have called several times. I left a voice mail message with my contact info and sent an email with my contact info. I would really like to discuss the details of my order but can't seem to reach him. Does anyone have and suggestions about how to contact him?? Its only about a 8 to 10 hour drive from here, maybe I'll just drive over next week!!

Receivers are in and I'm starting this shipping process. Thank god kids are back in school. Should be getting notice on shipping and what not soon. Going to trying to get them going out as fast as possible.
Mitch, please let us know once shipped so we know when to start asking our dealer if they've arrived yet. My dealer will not open a package without my presence, they do not not call me to tell me its there, so I really need to know when to expect it. I have not received a shipping confirmation e-mail, or voice message from you, so I assume they have not shipped yet? Please keep us posted. Thank you, John

Started assembling 2 receivers tonight, ran into a couple minor snags.
On both lowers, the 1-3/16-16 buffer tube thread is too tight, none of my buffer tubes would screw in more then a couple turns. Ordering a $50 tap from McMaster to clean up the threads.
Front pivot pin retaining pin/spring hole was too small, the spring or pin would not go into the hole. Opened up with a drill bit in the Makita, no problem.
Front pivot pin retaining pin/spring hole sits a little high in 1 of the 2 receivers, causing the pivot pin to rotate slightly past the flat and not allowing it to fully seat. I turned the retaining pin OD down a little (smaller nipple) so the pivot pin has more wiggle room, problem solved.
Olympic upper needed a little reaming of the rear pin hole when mounted the lower. A .248 reamer made for a real tight pin, .249 made a perfect upper/lower fit. Olympics always seem tight, but its nice to have a solid fitting hand fitted set.
Magazines (used surplus, or NIW 1960's and 1970's surplus) needed a quick vice squeeze or else no possible way they would go. It is indeed really easy and fast to do once you do one and get the hang of it. I squeezed the width, then length, width again and length again, done.
Ordered with LPK installed, but received stripped lowers, no LPK in sight. Asked Mitchell to ship without if possible, he did. Hopefully these will be shipped seperately, or money refunded. Either way is OK with us. Had other LPK's on hand for now.
So far so good, no problems we could not easily overcome (except the tap). Hopefully the tap will be here Friday so we can shoot them on the weekend!
The lowers look fantastic and professionally made/finished with care! Its amazing what the guys did on hand and CNC equipment!
Mag catch is excellent too! May be buying a spare to have on hand, just in case the edges ever wear and it doesn't retian the mags as well as it does now.
Thanks Justin and Mitch

I guess that I am not so lucky with mine. Right now I am so disappointed that I could just recycle the lower with the pop cans. Composing an email to Mitch shortly.

mom told me if you can't say anything nice..... but: NH-Moose, while i find your resourceful solutions and good-natured review/report inspiring, i'd have to say i would be less forgiving if i was in your situation. maybe that's just me, but... the kind of out-of-spec features you are reporting are one thing when you are responsible for them yourself (goodness knows i've drilled my share of imperfect holes), but when you've paid an established shop to complete a product to spec it should be exactly that: in spec (never mind whether they meet the agreed-upon delivery schedule or not... but that matters too). you shouldn't have to re-tap the buffer tube! or correct the alignment of the pivot pin detent! or any of that stuff (although the mag fit thing is a known issue and khalan should not be held accountable for it unless they agreed to widen the magwell for you to fit stock m3 mags)... as i said, i've made my share of slip-ups on various projects, but they were my own, not (paid) work i did for others. in my opinion (and i know neither you nor anyone else asked for it), the vendor/provider is bound to deliver the product/service that was agreed upon at the time of sale, and you did not receive that. of course it is up to you to deal with the situation as you see fit, and is not my place to judge that. i only offer another perspective (from the outside, as one that has no $$ or emotions tied up in this deal) for consideration. i'd sincerely rather that everyone involved gets what they want for a price they are happy with and nobody on any end of the deal walks away feeling anything but pleased with what they got. but when it looks like that isn't happening, i guess i feel like it may help someone somewhere to point it out. i imagine i've done the equivalent of insuring that my burger will be spit in if i ever do order from khalan, but i don't suppose i'll ever be doing that based on what i've seen so far...

Goober, I sympathize, its been a long wait, and I'm so close to shooting an AR45 I can practically smell the gunpowder! My post was meant to be informative and constructive, and to offer suggestions/solutions for others that now have a receiver in hand and may or may not have the same issues.
It was my error on the price of the tap (13/16-16 was $50) where as a 1-3/16-16 is $99 from McMaster, I think $89 from MSC, but their site is unavailable at the moment. Either way its more than we're willing to spend.
Not sure if the anodize made the thread too tight, or they were too tight to start with, but I've tried 5 tubes from various manufacturers. CAR and full length, none would screw in more than a few turns. They screw into other brand receivers with zero effort required (Mega, Oly, and EA).
Justin and/or Mitch, any suggestions how to remedy this? Do you have a Tap I can borrow? (I'd even be happy to pay shipping). We really don't want to have to ship these back unless absolutely necessary.
Please respond so we can get the ball rolling again.

Hi NH-Moose- not sure if something got mixed up in transmission... but i thought i was sympathizing with YOU... i'll reiterate that i: 1) do not have a past or pending deal with Khalan Arms 2) Am not in any way affiliated with Khalan or CNC Gunsmithing 3) Am just another guy like you that thinks the AR45 is a really cool idea and that owning and shooting one is worth paying some $$ 4) Have nothing but good things to say about CNC Gunsmithing based on the business I've done with Justin.
All that being said, I totally empathize with your burning desire to (finally) enjoy the toy you've been itching for so long to play with. It sucks that you're stuck once again with the prize in sight but just out of reach. I think part of the reason behind that might be poor quality of workmanship from the vendor you've chosen. Which sucks, but... I have an extra 1 3/16" buffer tube tap. PM me with a shipping addy and I'll send it to you if you'll pay shipping to and fro. If it gets you where you want to be, and costs me nothing, its worth it. I also feel like I should do more than just talk smack about a deal I had nothing to do with. So here's my chance to do so. Just PM me and I'll send the tap your way. -g
