Hi

Some questions to the group. I am working on the solid models for an upper to go on a TM lower. I am new to this so I want to shorten the learning curve by asking plenty of questions.

What are opinions of slab sided upper VS one with shell case deflector?

What are opinions on having a forward assist?

Are the Amalite and DPMS bolt carriers interchangable?

Are the Amalite and DPMS charging handles interchangable?

Does anyone have a preference for Armalite VS DPMS forward assist parts?

Thank you.

I'm no expert, but own several AR's and have put many thousand rounds through them.  I'll list my opinion, but everyone has one.

In my opinion it's mostly for looks.  I like the look of a slab side.  I don't have high speed video equipment, but none of mine show wear on the deflector.  Probably means the case doesn't hit them much.

What are opinions on having a forward assist?
I seldom if ever have to use it with decent ammo.  Even with wolf I could count the times on one hand.

Thank you.

Hello

Just to keep everyone posted I finished my first try at the upper model and it was OK, but had some problems I am working on try 2 now but have to work this week so progress will be slow. Can any verify the height of the gas tube port from the centerline of the BCG/barrel? Try 2 will be specific to mate to TM308 lowers.

Hello

Here is a .308 upper model I built (in CAD) to fit on my TM308 lower. All the usual cautions as there ia no guarenty that I got the dimensions correct.

I hope to produce a family of models with other features, ejection port cover, shell casing deflector and forward assist. If anyone has sketches with dimemsions of any of the above components I need them to continue.

Please post any corrections or comments.

John
