Here is my first AR 45 still under construction. This will be a DI weapon. Now I just have to get moving on setting up an anodizing line so I finish this one off.

This is my new Bazooka Brothers BAZ45 lower that I had made with my registered brand laser engraved on it. I have everything I need for the build except time. I will post pictures later after the build is complete.

One thing I would like to do before I start the build is to cut my Oly upper for the .460 Rowland.

I was told that if I ream the chamber to the 460 It would leave a ring at the start of the new cut and then I might have some feeding/ejection issues. Has anyone done this before?

Here it is. It's done! Well, almost done. Just finished it and shot 15 rounds through it with 2 jams and then it started raining. lucky for me I can shoot from my back yard so later when the weather is better and I have more time I will see what's going on. Hopefully it's just tight and needs to run more ammo through it.
Also because the buffer tower area on the receiver is thicker, wider and longer so the buffer tube threads is not long enough to hold down the buffer retainer pin so I had to take out the buffer retainer pin and spring to test drive the gun. I do have a complete collapsible stock siting around so I may use it instead which should work to hold down the buffer retainer pin and spring.
Now to be safe and not break anything I need to call Bazooka brothers and see what buffer to use with this gun with collapsible stock and then I could do a real function test.
One more thing. The receiver takes the AR15 mag catch so I need to modify all my grease gun mags. Hopefully it will not cost an arm and a leg to have 20 mags converted. The receiver came with a new mag so if I can find someone with a milling machine I could do the conversion my self. looks simple enough now that I have a template (the new mag).

If you had a CNC AR45.....you wouldn't have to mod the mags...... Wink

Ever thought of going gas op on the upper?

Everything has it's pros and cons and everybody has different views so this was the best choice for me.

Pros; lowers accept all mil-spec lower parts kits, there are no specialty parts required,
threaded bolt stop pin with set screw (to ease the installation of the bolt stop), threaded rear take down pin detent Hole with set screw (so that the stock can be removed/switched without the worry of loosing the spring and detent), strengthen trigger guard is now part of the lower; additional material is added to the buffer tube tower for strength. (no worries there for when I convert to .460 Rowland)

Cons; You have to modify the grease gun mags.

It's much easier to modify a grease gun mag then to locate/Purchase new specialty mag catch parts if something should happen.

I installed my collapsible stock which locked in the buffer retainer pin. Ran 2 full clips with out a jam

When I get my ATF aproval letter I'm going with a 11.5" RMW gas upper and hopefully in the .460 Rowland

RMW isn't the only one building a Gas AR.....Justin should be posting a review soon as I am shipping out his gas upper today.... I build a high quality upper with barrel legnths ranging from 7.5 to 20 inches.....ant they come standard with a rail system handguard. Optmized for the front feed location....my design retains 90% of the lower locking lugs in the barrel extension reducing the load on the upper olt lugs associated with some of the other designs that I have seen. Hope you'll give me some consideration in your plans for a DI .45 upper.

As far as the BAZ lower...was just pokin fun because of the site it was posted on..I haven't actually seen one in person.....but from what I have read and seen they look nice.....but your worries with the AR45 mag catch are groundless...I have 3 AR45 lowers....a Kalahan, a Thompson , and a paperweight I'm finishing .....and trust me...the only way Justin's mag catch could be damaged would be if you took an aceteleyne torch and melted it... Grin it very well made and EXCEPTIONALLY beefy.....Good luck with your project ...and you will love DI...no more heavy buffers....and NO recoil..... Grin

MM

I will consider other DI uppers. I enjoy researching gun stuff to see what is best for my applications. PM me when Justin comes out with his review just in case I miss it.
                                    Thanks, Chris

Here is my latest build.  The upper is a DI upper from Quality Machine aka "Mad Machinist".....the lower is of course the AR45  Grin  And the handle is the A1 carry handles I sell.

The upper is really nice quality.  I've shot over 100 round through her so far and only had a couple failure to feeds but I think it's because I was trying to use up some really cheap ammo I had laying around.

Contact Rudy @ Quality Machine for pricing and availability.....  qualitymachine@bellsouth.net
