Pistol Discussions / Glock 19 Slide
« Last post by plucas on March 23, 2017, 06:43:58 AM »
So I have been working on modeling my slide on my Glock 19. I am wondering if anybody else has done this because I would like to verify some of my dimensions. The extractor spring area is a big one I'd like to check. Hope somebody else has done this  ;D

Only parts that aren't finished on this model is sight cuts and factory serrations.

General Discussion / Gunsmith Class: Custom Smith and Wesson Revolver
« Last post by DRC on March 12, 2017, 11:28:36 PM »
Deep River Customs is announcing a new class offering: Custom Smith and Wesson Revolver

Course Description:

The 7-day course will provide students with the instruction needed to bring a Smith and Wesson Model 929 to ultimate competition readiness. Included in the cost of the course will be a Smith and Wesson model 929, and parts necessary to perform all of the tuning and modifications. All of the necessary tooling and parts will be provided as well. The student only needs to arrive with a willingness to learn!
The initial blocks of instruction will introduce students to the design and function theory of the Smith and Wesson revolver as well as detailed disassembly/reassembly.
Attention will then turn toward competition tuning of the studentís revolver. Inferior MIM internal parts will be discarded, and quality bar-stock hammers, triggers, double action sears, firing pins, and cylinder stops will be installed. With the new parts in place, the revolver will be tuned for ultimate competition function and reliability. Topics during this portion of the class will include cylinder timing and the proper fitting of hands and double action sears.
As the next phase of the class begins, students will then be coached through the installation of a custom DX style front sight base on a milling machine. This base allows for full interchangeability of front sights. This will be paired with a Bowen Classic Arms rear sight to allow for the most flexible and highest quality sight arrangement available.
During the fourth phase of the course, students will receive instruction on more advanced topics such as barrel and cylinder installations. Students will have the opportunity to install a barrel on a provided S&W frame if they do not wish to change the barrel on their project 929.
During the final work portion of the class, students will have the opportunity to modify the existing barrel on their Model 929 to a profile that more closely resembles the lighter contour of the Model 627 Pro models. Students may also choose to shorten and re-crown the existing barrel. Professional quality barrel markings will then be reapplied. Students who are satisfied with the factory contour of the Model 929 are welcome to keep the barrel in factory configuration.
Topics such as caliber conversions and metal finishing will be discussed as time permits during the duration of the course.
On the final day of class, the class will travel to a local range for test firing of the finished project revolvers!

Tentative class date for 2017 will be July 31-Aug. 4th, 2017. Please contact us if you would like more information: info@deeprivercustoms.com

Picture of fellows at Vestals Gunsmithing test firing  585 HE

they built for a guy. They got 750 gr to almost 2800 from

ultra short barrel, not a full load . A regular barrel  would be

over  2900,  14000 ft lbs with full load..

Picture of our 375 HE cases, with little 378 WEA on left.

Middle case is with 330 gr, right case is  400gr bullet.

Here is picture of out 375HE testgun, in heavy t-hole stock.

So far 340 gr to 3700 and 360gr 3600.

Next 416 HE target case, these run through the hydro-die,

test gun done, will complete testing soon, to confirm specs.

When specs set, info will be sent to reamer guys

Soon will have  408 HE with specs set up also, for guys,

Smaller case 416s and 408s can be reamed out for

our  bigger case .Ed

thats too bad.

One other thing I found was a last round hold open follower for AK47s. In theory would something like this hold a possible solution? It could easily be 3D printed!.. if someone would provide the specs.

I still feel like the AR45 is a great thing. And given all the love out there for SBRs and pistol cal PDWs, that this entire thing remains worth keeping on.

I have looked at B&T, HK, A whole host of AR mods, and the AR45 here is just the best idea- especially when you think about the money.

Only trying to promote a more perfect AR45 here. no worries.

Pistol Discussions / 80% 1911 3 point jam problem...
« Last post by michigancanadianbrett on February 19, 2017, 06:25:34 PM »
Hey guys first post on the forum but long time reader. I've recently finished my first pistol (and when I say first I've never even owned one before) but am unable to get it to feed properly. Here's what I've checked thus far:
1) magazine (brand new Remington 7 round) it has the origional styled lips.
2) magwell angle at 17.25 deg
3) feed ramp angle at a touch over 31 deg.
4) barrel seat/bridge sitting at .078" from the top of the frame
5) ejector removed and it will go but it is still super "clunky" and not a smooth action whatsoever. I think this may be part of the problem but not the root cause.

Any further help would be glorious.
Thanks in advance.

Here is picture of  one of 3 buffs our guy from Canada got in

Africa with  our 24ga FH he did on a NEF,  in 2nd picture

Here is the neck die setup, with insert stems/plugs for the top that

are set in .020" steps to make our 375 HEs shown behind

from our 585HE cases. 900 cases behind and 600  on

another bench, mostly done, and 600 started elsewhere,

We  also made a hydraulic form die, 375 HE test gun, starting with

lighter bullets, for example got 340 gr to 3700,

Will test up to 400gr We will find top speeds and powders needed

to get that, and have info where to get powders.  Reamer prints are

at reamer guys, all prints and info is public domain... Ed
